Wrestling
Freestyle wrestling, an Olympic sport since 1904, combines a variety of techniques such as throws, grips, and maneuvers with the goal of pinning the opponent’s shoulders to the mat. Matches consist of three periods, each lasting two minutes, with a 30-second break in between. At the end of each period, a winner must be determined.
Wrestlers must be clean-shaven or have a beard grown out for several months. The official uniform includes one-piece tights in either red or blue, as required by United World Wrestling (formerly FILA) regulations. Additionally, wrestlers wear ankle-supporting shoes and may use FILA-approved ear guards for protection.
Training in freestyle wrestling enhances endurance, flexibility, strength, and agility, while also strengthening bones, tendons, and ligaments. This rigorous practice improves the musculoskeletal system and posture.
The core of freestyle wrestling is mastering the ability to control and manipulate the match, showcasing both strategic and tactical skills.
